On the first day of the new year, Kelly Quickquack was feeling great. She had made a small checklist to prepare for the big day, and keeping herself organized like that made her feel confident. On her checklist were the first three items:
-
Make favorite lunch for school: peanut butter and jam sandwich on whole wheat, no crusts.
-
Set out favorite polka dot dress and matching shoes.
-
Double check alarm clock for 8 am.
Kelly had given herself a triple check for these items. Once she was on the school bus, she started to get excited to meet Wally. They had decided to meet at the hop-scotch game in the school yard. Wally was right on time too and she could see him strolling over and waving.
“Wally! I am so happy to see you,” Kelly called out. “I missed you this summer!!”
“I missed you too Kelly,” Wally replied. “I had such a fun summer full of relaxing and playing games. At recess I will tell you all about it! Shall we look at our plan for today?”
Kelly took out her small ‘First Day of School’ list and read aloud the next two items for the first day of school.
“Let’s find our lockers and set up our desks!” Kelly said with excitement.
“Yes! I can’t wait to decorate my locker!” said Wally – who was known for his funky locker decorations.
Both friends held hands as they headed in to pick out a locker for their belongings.
