Pandemic Parenting: Lessons Learned in 2020

It’s been a year since the pandemic made families switch to home–mode and we wanted to applaud all of the parents who adapted to this new reality and kept their little ones smiling throughout the past 12 months! (Cue virtual clapping sounds.)

Many of you had to change your routines, take on more tasks, get creative with free time, become play partners, double as educators, and so much more. To dive a lil’ deeper into these changes, we asked the parents of our tiny B. fans what lessons they learned in 2020 and what advice they have for others going forward.

“The lesson I have learned is to take it easy on yourself. Don’t be so hard on yourself all the time – it’s okay if your kid gets extra screen time some days, it’s okay if the house is a wreck, and it’s okay if some days all you want to do is watch movies on the couch. Don’t be so hard on yourself – if you’re happy and your kid is happy, fed, and taken care of, then you’re doing a great job!”

“Children start learning how to test your limits at a very young age, and are like sponges. They soak everything in, including our behavior. Even when it gets tiring at times and sometimes, we just give in, we have to remind ourselves that it will be worth it in the end and one day they will thank us for it. Being consistent and having boundaries is so important!”

“My biggest advice to new parents is to appreciate what you’re getting done and not stress about what’s still on the to–do list. Taking care of a baby is hard work! Forget cleaning the house, snuggle your baby! They are only little once.”

“The #1 piece of advice I would give to other parents is don’t compare your child to other people’s kids and babies. Each child is their own child, and each child is different, each child grows in different ways, learns in different ways, communicates in different ways – everything is different! It won’t be good for your kid or for yourself to compare them. So focus on your child’s triumphs and be proud of them for what they do instead of comparing them!”
