What Nature Teaches Us!

Welcome back! 2020 was an unusual year to say the least! As December comes to a close, it is common to look back and reflect. Do you make resolutions with your family? If you do – great! And if you don’t – maybe this year you can give it a go. Nature can be one of our greatest teachers! Here are some fun, funky and just plain weird animal facts that can teach and inspire you into 2021.

FACT: Shrimps have their heart in their head.

We encourage you to think pink this coming new year! Using your head but applying a bit of heart has a big impact in the world around us. Just like the shrimp, you may be small but you are mighty! Kindness and empathy are powerful tools to shape our lives in any situation.

FACT: Otters “hold hands” while sleeping, so they don’t float away from each other.

The otter is on to something; never be afraid to reach out to someone! Hand holding might be on pause for a bit but reaching out to support one another – by Zoom, or call or just a cheery wave hello, well that brings a feeling like no otter, ahem – we mean other.

FACT: Koalas can sleep for up to 22 hours a day.

Koalas, outside of being the reigning cute champions, are also official kings & queens of rest and relaxation. R&R is underrated but it is an essential part of good health. Whether you get some Z’s in trees or prefer a more horizontal approach – take a cue from koalas: getting a good nights rest lets you be at your best!

FACT: Polar bears have jet black skin under their white fur coats to absorb sunlight. A tiger’s skin is striped underneath their striped fur!

Polar bears and tigers are unique animals and act as a beautiful metaphor, that creatures and people are more than meets the eye. Frequently we only see what is on the surface – but something more magical and interesting is always underneath. Like these magnificent animals, you have unique qualities that not everyone can see at first glance. Don’t judge anyone by their surface stripes, because FUR-sure there is more to get to know!

Animal Party Hat – you will need:

  • Construction paper
  • A pair of scissors
  • A pen
  • Glue sticks
  • Glue gun
  • Stretchy cord (for the strap)
  • Pom-poms
